Papilio antimachus, REAL 'African Giant Swallowtail' 7"+ Wingspan!, Wings Folded Closed
A rare find! Papilio antimachus, the 'African Giant Swallowtail', is the largest butterfly in Africa, and among the largest of the world. Wingspans average from 7 inches to over 9 inches in length. Specimen is a male.
This species is a bit of a mystery, they are known to be one of the only venomous butterflies, and no caterpillar or chrysalis from one has ever been seen. Unfortunately, their habitat is currently in poor condition because of poaching, wars, and forest lost. Because of this, we DO NOT sell this species, as there is no way to ethically do so. HOWEVER, we have found ONE SPECIMEN from an older US collection.
This is a rare find from an older collection (2000), and we only have one specimen! Specimen is marked A1, but because it is older than 20 years we are listing it as A1-/A-. A unique opportunity and the only ethical way to currently own this species.
Specimen will ship with wings closed and folded together. A link with video instructions will be included to help you open your butterfly.
