One of the most incredible birdwing species! This one is special for a lot of reasons! Troides magellanus one of the most iridescent butterflies known! At first it appears similar to any troides species, with just black and yellow being visible, but as you angle it the yellow turns a beautiful blueish-purple.
This butterfly is also quite old, with collecting data showing it is from 1958! Also collecting data shows it is from 'Formosa'- a name for Taiwan that hasn't been used in a loong time. Troides magellanus are only found on one island off Taiwan, with all specimens coming from the Philippines. A very cool butterfly with a lot of history!
