Butterfly/Insect Hydration Syringe Entomology Tools/Equipment

The first step when working with insects is to hydrate or 'rehydrate' them so that they are flexible enough to be worked on.  This syringe is recommended for butterflies and some moths.

Injecting the butterfly/moth with boiling water can help the wings become more flexible, therefore reducing difficulty and wing kinks.

Please note that some moths (such as Death's head Hawkmoths) may become excessively greasy when injected with boiling water.
