Collection: Butterfly Specimens

This week in honor of our two daughters' birthdays we're ENCOURAGING GIRLS to get involved in Entomology.

Why does this matter? Because conservation affects EVERYONE.

Insects make up the building blocks of our ecosystems-acting as pollinators, recycling nutrients, providing a vital food source, and stabilizing the environment.

Globally INSECT NUMBERS ARE IN DECLINE, with overall numbers dropping by around 2% each year. Current estimates show that approximately 1/3 of insect species are endangered and 40% of all insects are declining. This is an issue that will affect every human on the planet-male and female. Yet, typically only boys are encouraged to catch bugs and explore the insect world, with girls taught that bugs are 'yucky' or scary. Currently women hold less than 25% of paid university entomology jobs and only about 27% of federal entomology positions. Let's change that!

Together we can inspire, equip, and help girls to love bugs-even the yucky ones :)
